County Connection and Amtrak – All Aboard

County Connection has teamed up with Amtrak to accept the Amtrak train transfers for the San Joaquin and Pacific Surfliner trains as full fare payment on the buses. The San Joaquin route travels the Central Valley communities of Stockton, Fresno, and Bakersfield, and the Pacific Surfliner route travels to Santa Barbara.

Train conductors will provide a two-part transfer for passengers upon request. The transfer allows the rider to board buses of any partner agency for free. The transfer slips are valid for two days – the day of issue, and the following day.

County Connection has five weekday bus routes that serve the Martinez Amtrak station: Route 16, Route 18, Route 19, Route 28, and Route 98. For route and schedule information call Customer service at 925-676-7500 or visit www.cccta.org.

  • I’ll be riding the Pacific Surfliner to visit my son in San Diego. Weekday return trips on the Pacific Surfliner arrive on 8:55 pm and 10:25 pm.
Why can’t Route 98X trips be extended to 11 pm so I don’t have to stay overnight in Martinez?
If operating costs are a concern, the frequency of trips of Routes 16, 18, 19, and 28 could be cut slightly to balance costs.

    • Hard to imagine cutting “frequency” on the mentioned routes since they already have “frequencies” of an hour or more, but your comments have been given to the scheduling dept.

      • Martinez also needs CCCTA Bus service to a BART station for County Hospital admission and release serice, evening meetings in the County Office Building, and evening parole releases from the County Detention facilities.

        • Based on all the other comments there are a lot of recognized needs. It’s a shame there is so little investment in suburban public transit. Clearly there is a need.

      • Please don’t cut the frequencies of our mainlines in favor of an express service… Call a cab if you don’t want to stay overnight in our lovely little town.

  • It also would be nice if the Amtrak Departure & Arrival times matched up with the buses. It’s pretty aggravating to have to wait an hour for the next bus when the train arrives directly after the bus leaves.

Additionally, the first buses don’t even arrive at the station until after the first two trains to Sacramento have left in the morning. This makes no sense. Also, the last bus leaves before 9pm while there are two trains still arriving from Sacramento until 10:10 pm. There is a similar problem with the BART stations and limited bus service hours.

I understand that there are fewer riders early in the morning and late at night, but why not run smaller buses or big vans? It really is almost impossible to use public transportation exclusively unless it is between 8am-8pm.

  • CCCTA needs more morning routes from crescent plaza to DVC, or a reroute to avoid morning school traffic which consistenly makes the 18 late by a longshot. i COULD take the 16 then 20 but then i have to wake up 2 hours early. A shuttle just in the morning and afternoon around 8am and 2pm would be HIGHLY appreciated if it dodges the traffic behind DVC caused by the other 2 schools.

  • We discussed Gov. Brown’s threatened cuts to education at the Senior Mobility Action Council meeting this morning of the County Advisory Council on Aging.
The one State subsidized benefit both the Aged/Disabled and Students need is Public Transportation.

  • I was wondering if you ever considered changing the
layout of your website? Its very well written; I love what youve got to say.
But maybe you could a little more in the way of content so
people could connect with it better. Youve got an awful lot of
text for only having 1 or 2 images. Maybe you could space it out better?

    • Thanks for the nice comments. I don’t see us changing the layout in the near future. We completely overhauled it a couple years ago to be a little more user-friendly and meaningful. As for content…I agree, there is a lot more that can be said, but there really isn’t a budget (or staff) devoted specifically for the website. It is managed and updated by the same staff member responsible for marketing/pr/customer service.

  • So if I understand correctly…I can take Amtrak to Martinez, getting two transfers on board the train. Use one transfer to take the bus to another destination in martinez, and then use the second transfer to get back to Amtrak? Is that right, or do I have to pay cash to get back because I am not boarding at Amtrak?

    • You are correct. Make sure you get the transfer when you first board the Amtrak train.

  • First of all I would like to say awesome blog! I had
a quick question that I’d like to ask if you don’t mind.
I was interested to know how you center yourself and clear your head
before writing. I have had difficulty clearing my thoughts in getting my ideas
out. I do enjoy writing however it just seems
like the first 10 to 15 minutes are generally wasted simply just trying to figure out
how to begin. Any suggestions or tips? Many thanks!

    • I’m surprised on two fronts…first to see the comment on a post that’s almost 2 years old! I’d like to know what keyword you used to find it. Second, I’m flattered – never considered myself a writer. I write like I talk, and I love to talk.

  • I was just seeking this information for a while.
After six hours of continuous Googleing, finally I got it in your site.
I wonder what is the lack of Google strategy that don’t rank this type of
informative sites in top of the list. Usually the top web sites are full of garbage.

    • I don’t know how Google prioritizes their ranking. If County Connection is a top page for you, I suggest you bookmark it and use our trip planner.
