  • Low ridership because it wasn’t frequent enough to do anyone any good!

  • Route 6 has suffered such drastic cutbacks over the years, not only Frequency, but also Reach (no longer continuing into the Camino Pablo/Sanders Ranch neighborhood) that it is barely useful in it’s present state. Meanwhile those commuting to BART are unable to purchase parking permits (several year waits), which puts more cars on the road not only from Moraga to Lafayette and Orinda, but to points beyond. Increase “connector” bus service will reduce traffic, pollution, global warming, etc., etc. INCREASE ROUTE 6 Commute Hours SERVICE, please!

  • Please increase route 6. I would take it to BART if it came more often. It comes so seldom that it’s worthless as transportation.

    • Thank you for your suggestion. We had to make some difficult decisions back in the 2008-9 recession that reduced Route 6 service. We plan on increasing Route 6 peak service during this restructure. In order to be able to increase service on our more productive routes we need to eliminate service on less productive routes.

  • Yes, please increase frequency on route 6. While it is OK in the morning going to Orinda Bart, it is not
returning from Orinda Bart, especially in the afternoon. Only running every hour or so makes using
the bus very inconvenient for us Senior Citizens. Would like it to run from Orinda Bart to Moraga every
half hour. I would certainly use it with this kind of schedule.
    Thank you

  • I live on the 6 route and have no use for the 25 (it turns out there is a competing transit service that will take you from Lafayette BART to Walnut Creek BART), so it’s easy for me to say this, but shifting some resources from the 25 to the 6 sounds like a good idea. The problem is that I often come home too late for the 6, so I’ve basically given up on the bus, and increased rush-hour frequency won’t really change that, but my in-laws don’t drive and do use it, so I’m sure they’d appreciate more frequency.

I despair about the chances of any bus lasting long in Moraga though. When I did ride the 6 to BART, I couldn’t help but notice that the bus would get stuck in the Campo traffic jam, but one 6 and two 606 buses would go right through the middle of the Campo rush usually with between 0 and 1 kid getting off there. There is no way that not a single one of the kids getting dropped off lives within a few block of the 6’s route. Probably at least half of them do, but most parents drop their kids off or let them drive themselves rather than considering using the bus instead of clogging the road. Sometimes I was the only passenger on the bus for large parts of the route to BART. That’s a pretty sad waste.

  • Yes, please increase Route 6 frequency! It used to be every 20 minutes at peak hours and was so convenient. I would definitely use it more often, especially on the ride back ‘home’ if it ran more frequently. Currently, if you miss the afternoon bus home, you need to wait 40 minutes, or take a taxi home. Not a good choice as we are trying to keep cars off the road.

  • I’m all for increasing frequency of Route 6. Good call. Gets more cars of the road. Also, maybe consider extending it down further along Camino Pablo

  • Thank you for increasing frequency of route 6. Traffic during rush/school hours is horrible on Moraga Rd and Moraga Way to increased frequency of Route 6 will help to get more cars off the road. This bus is almost always full during morning rush hours.

Like others I would like to see extended service to serve Camino Pablo neighborhood (towards Sanders Ranch). Are you looking at that?

  • No opinion on Route 25. Never used it. If I take public transportation from Lafayette to Walnut Creek, I take BART.

Peak service increase in Route 6, especially in the PM hours, would be nice. My daughter attends Campolindo High School and will rely on the Route 6 and 600 series to get home. On days where she stays late after school for sports or activities and will be reliant on Route 6, having PM peak service intervals less than 40 minutes would be nice.

  • No comment on Route 25. Never used it. If I need to go from Lafayette to Walnut Creek via public transportation, I take BART.

Increased peak service on Route 6, in particular the afternoons, would be nice. My daughter will be going to Campolindo and will use Route 6 to get to/from school and home. On days where she stays late after school (e.g. for sports or activities and hopefully not detention), it would be nice to not have to wait up to 40 minutes for the next bus. I took public transit to school myself for many years and I speak from experience that having to wait that long in the cold/rain/dark is no fun.

  • Regarding the ridership of Route 25, it has never been given a chance to perform. It does not run midday, only runs once an hour, and while it goes through downtown Lafayette, it skips by downtown Walnut Creek. The route should run from Lafayette down Olympic to California Blvd, and then turn left to go the the Walnut Creek Bart. All the bus stops on California are already there and only a short block from downtown Walnut Creek, where most people on the bus want to go. In addition, Olympic Blvd is the main route from Lafayette to Walnut Creek, and there is no other bus that goes down that main thoroughfare. Even though it will probably never be a heavily used route, it is a necessary one due to no other easy options.
    Thank you,

  • I just started working in Lafayette and the 25 let’s me off right by my job and other know businesses, so this would really suck if I have to now walk a mile to Lafayette Bart. The timing for the 25 was already horrible but to not exist would hurt too.
Will there be any other bus running from Walnut Creek to Lafayette?

  • Route 25 is the ONLY bus that runs down the Olympic Blvd main link between Lafayette and Walnut Creek. Since it
is limited to only the WC Bart station at one end, the ridership could be improved by having the bus go to California Blvd instead of turning onto the freeway. Existing bus stops along Olympic would allow people to get off and be only a short block from Downtown Walnut Creek where many would like to go. It could then continue to the WC Bart.
Please be aware that removing this line would leave a huge gap in the system along Olympic Blvd, a major thoroughfare.

  • Increasing to every 20 min on route 6 during commute hours would indeed be ideal. This every 40 min schedule is horrible.

  • Please do not eliminate bus 25! Both my husband and I take this bus to commute from carol ln to lafayette Bart station. There are always pleinty of passengers on the first bus in the morning.

If the route is eliminated, we will have to walk for 30 minutes in the morning AND in the evening. This will raise time management issue with the timing of daycare for our kids! Perhaps you could increase frequency of 25 in the morning and in the evening, and not running it from 11 am to 4pm, so that more people can take advantage of it?

  • I also think that instead of eliminating the 25 bus, the peak hour frequency should be increased to encourage more ridership!! Eliminate it will cause lots of inconvenience to us!! Please do not get rid of it.

  • Please do not eliminate route 25. This is the only bus that runs along Olympic Blvd which is a major connection between Lafayette and Walnut Creek. I find this bus invaluable in commuting from many locations in Walnut Creek to Lafayette..when using the BART would be less convenient.

  • Hello,

Please keep line 25 in service, it’s the only viable public transit option available for me & my neighbours.

  • Please keep Line 25 in service. I agree with the other pro-25 comments about this. Since there are two hundred condos and so many blocks of residential homes near the Olympic/Newall bus stop, people could really come to depend on Line 25 in time. Walnut Creek’s blossoming city-like growth needs these transportation routes of great service throughout. Thank you!

  • Route 25 is vital to my family. It is the only way to get to Bart for my husband’s work, besides walking 30mins to Bart. With Bart’s parking issues, it is invaluable to us to be able to take the bus. There is low ridership because the timings are not great, but it’s better than nothing at all. Please don’t eliminate Route 25!

  • Please keep route 25 – I use this bus on a daily basis to get to/from BART. I echo the other thoughts on running more frequent service during commuting hours since this is the only service in this area.

  • Increasing the Route 6 frequency during commute hours would be an absolutely fantastic improvement.

I’m curious about CC’s efforts to incentivize student ridership. It’s frustrating to see buses stuck in the traffic logjams near Miramonte and Campolindo High Schools. As a parent, I haven’t encountered anything from the junior high or high schools to advertise or encourage CC bus use. There seems to be a general lack of awareness of Route 6 as a convenient and inexpensive option for students.

  • My son comes back home from Acalanes High School to Walnut Creek by taking route 25 everyday. He has no other alternative transportation to go home. We are in deep trouble if route 25 is eliminated. We are heavily relying on route 25. Please keep the route 25, or at least 1:30 pm, 2:30 pm and 3:30 pm, so he has a way to come back home after school. Please do not run only commute hours! Teens need a way to move around by themselves. I also agree that it is more convenient if the 25 bus runs through California Blvd instead of going through highway. This may increase the ridership.

  • Please keep 25 up and running during commute hours for students. This bus is my kids only ride to go home from school to Walnut Creek. It would be very hard for me to pick them up after school due to my long hours of commute to work. The only way to reduce my stress is letting them ride the 25 since I can’t pick them up from school.

  • Please keep Line 25 in service. My son takes Line 25 to come back home from Acalanes High School. He gets out from school earlier, so 625 bus does not work for him. Line 25 is the only public transportation that he can take to come back home.
It is also better if Line 25 goes through California Blvd to pick up more people from Walnut Creek Downtown instead of taking highway shortcut.
