Continuing the tradition of giving, County Connection will use the buses as rolling collection bins in the annual food drive which runs from Nov. 27 – Dec. 10. In past years, County Connection passengers have generously donated up to a thousand pounds of food benefitting the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano.
All County Connection buses will have plastic milk crates placed near the front of the bus to hold donations. Road supervisors will be on call to meet buses on the road and empty crates that become full, and the PM maintenance crew empty all crates at the end of the day.
The most needed items are protein sources, like peanut butter and canned meats, any canned goods, dried beans, rice, pastas, iron-rich cereal and baby formula, tomato products, and 100% fruit juices. Food Bank officials ask that no glass container goods be donated, as they easily break during transportation and sorting.
Thank you to our passengers for allowing us to continue this tradition.
